Operation Desert Support (ODS) is a project that Morgan Bowen, a Sumter County 4-H'er, started in 2008 to show support to our deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through ODS, stockings are sent overseas to US troops for Christmas. The stockings are stuffed with items donated from the community. Each stocking is unique, handmade and decorated, and also contains a handmade card. More than 1,400 US troops have received a Christmas stocking expressing love and appreciation. Care packages containing hygiene items, foot powder, and socks are also sent. If you are interested in starting this in your own community, please contact us for more information.
